The Sewing Revolution Online Tutorials:

         TUTORIALS - General Instructions 6/8

1. What is the Sewing Revolution®?

Australian Patent No. 2001100654, International Patent Application No. PCT/AU02/00174

The Sewing Revolution® is a 13" circle made of clear acrylic. From the centre point there are circles that graduate out at ¼" intervals.

The circle is divided by 45° lines into 8 equal segments (red lines) and by 60° lines into 6 equal segments (blue lines). Repositioning marks enable further division of the circle. At each intersection of lines and circles is a small hole for marking with a fine tip marker.

The Sewing Revolution® is a Multi Purpose Tool.

3. ARCS AND CIRCLES

The Sewing Revolution® will help find the central pivot point when sewing an arc or circle around a particular design (i.e. embroidery, lace motif or applique) using The Circular Sewing Attachment for the sewing machines. Most sewing machine companies have The Circular Sewing Attachment as an optional extra. If you are unable to obtain a Circular Sewing Attachment, you may purchase one through this web site.

Steps
  1. Choose exactly where the arc or circle of sewing is to start and finish. (e.g. from X to Y)
  2. Place The Sewing Revolution® on the design and move until the desired arc or circle touches point X and Y.

    Diagram 2

  3. Mark the center point of The Sewing Revolution® (c) This becomes the pivot point for The Circular Sewing Attachment.

4. EMBROIDERY POSITIONING

The Sewing Revolution® can be used to position machine embroidery within many shapes including circles, squares, hexagons etc.

Steps for 6 Embroideries
  1. Place The Sewing Revolution® over the embroidery design template and move until the two blue lines marked E1 and E2 touch each side of the design. (Use the E1 and E2 line as the red line in between (D1) is the centre of the design). See Diagram 1.
  2. Take note of the measurement on The Sewing Revolution® at the middle point of the design template. (M).

    Diagram 3

  3. Once this is established place The Sewing Revolution® on the fabric and mark a dot at this measurement on the blue lines and also 1" below point M and 1" above.
  4. So on each 60° (blue line) there are 3 dots 1 inch apart. Position the centre of the embroidery on the central dot.
To stitch 8 embroideries in a circle repeat above steps using the red lines (45° marks) instead of the blue lines (60° marks).

    (Click for Positioning tutorial)

5. REPOSITIONING

The repositioning dots (B) enable the division of the circle into 12 or 16 equal sections. There are 4 sets in total (2 internal and 2 external sets) -

To Divide into 16 Sections
  1. Mark the 3 standard points (centre (C) and outer most points on Common Line (A). See Diagram 1.
  2. Mark each red line including the red marks of repositioning lines (B).
  3. Move The Sewing Revolution® so the repositioning marks are on the A marks where the common line was previously situated NOTE: make sure the centre point is still matching.
  4. Mark each red line (45°) again in the new position.
  5. The circle is now divided into 16. To divide into 12 use the blue line (60°) in the same way.
NOTE: This method is used to draw stars.
    1. Mark the first set of dots around the 6" circle.
    2. Reposition.
    3. Mark second set of dots around the 3" circle.
    4. Join the dots.
